9th April 2009 - End of Term Award
On the 2nd April 2009 our swimmers took part in time trials. All of the times were recorded and compared against the swimmers times at the start of the year (Sept/Oct 2008). To keep this fair, the time improvements were worked out as a percentage of the times at the start of the year taken over the different strokes.
On 9th April, the swimmers had a fun night in the pool where they played games and swam relay races including some using our large body boards. Afterwards, the members were awarded their certificates with their latest times.
Then one of our coaches awarded the Endeavour Shield to the swimmer with the best overall improvement.
The winner of the shield was Aine Cooper.

21st February 2009 - Friendly Gala against Donegall Club
Saturday 21st February 2009, Donegall club hosted a friendly swimming gala against Newtownabbey Amateur Swimming Club. This gala took place at the Valley Leisure Centre. It was a great day and all the swimmers had a great afternoon.
The highlight of the gala had to be the 'Dont Get Caught' relay at the end, where the two teams swam relay style, but started at opposite ends of the pool and continued swimming until one of the teams caught the other. Some of the supporters must have been as tired as the swimmers were at the end of the relay, if the cheering from the gallery was anything to go by!!!
We at NASC had never seen this before but this race will no doubt make a few appearances at coming training sessions. A great way to have fun, support your team mates and train at the same time. Thanks Donegal for sharing this one with us!
18th December 2009 Christmas Awards
To finish off 2009 we had a fun night in the pool for all the swimmers. Invariably these fun nights give the swimmers a chance to get even with the coaches for the miles and miles they make them swim. This is usually in the form of chucking the coaches fully clothed into the pool without the aid of a life jacket!
To round off the night, the coaches presented awards for Senior Boy, Senior Girl, Junior Boy and Junior Girl. This award takes into account several aspects: attendance, times, behaviour and enthusiasm.
The awards were as follows:-
- Senior Girl - Maeve Beatty.
- Senior Boy – Callum McGrath
- Junior Girl - Jordan Robinson
- Junior Boy – Owen Wilson.

26th June 2008 - End of Term Award
On the 19th June 2008 our swimmers took part in time trials. All of the times were recorded and compared against the swimmers times at the start of the year. To keep this fair, the time improvements were worked out as a percentage of the times at the start of the year taken over the four strokes.
On 26th June, the swimmers had a party after training and were awarded their certificates with their latest times. This was the first time that the Endeavour Shield was awarded to one of the swimmers for the best overall improvement.
The winner of the shield was Darcey Wilson.

Saturday 5th April 2008 Birthday Gala
Newtownabbey Borough Council was 50 years old in 2008 and to kick off the celebrations, Newtownabbey ASC held a swimming gala. This was a friendly gala against Donegall Amateur Swimming Club and was held in the Valley Leisure Centre on Saturday 5th April 2008.
Mayor Alderman Nigel Hamilton came along and started the first few races for us, though we couldn’t persuade him to take part in one himself!
The Valley Leisure Centres Deputy Manager, Gail Wallace, presented Aine Cooper and Abigail Simpson, both of Newtownabbey ASC with The Endeavour Shield at the gala. This shield will be awarded every few months to the swimmer that the coaches feel deserves it for attendance, commitment as well as achievement.
Every swimmer was awarded a certificate with their times on it and a medal commemorating the day. All in all, a very successful event.
